Case Study Intelligent Network Infrastructure – Local Government
The Customer
A large local authority delivering services to a population of 135,000 people, in a community based around agriculture and heavy industry.
The objectives were to reduce the cost of their network, while improving sustainability, minimising both the power requirements of the switching infrastructure and the heat generated.”
The Issue
The Council wanted to replace their critical core server LAN of ageing Brocade network switches and storage over two sites, which were soon to go end of life.
The objectives were to reduce the cost of their network, while improving sustainability, minimising both the power requirements of the switching infrastructure and the heat generated.
The Solution
Considering the critical nature of the services the council data centre provides, Qolcom adopted a parallel implementation to avoid service interruption.
Where possible, the data centre and top-of-rack switches were installed adjacent to the Brocade switches they replaced, and a migration link was installed between the two to maintain layer 2 connectivity between the two platforms for the duration of the project.
This allowed a gradual transition between platforms, ensuring services were maintained.
