Case Study Intelligent Network Infrastructure – Higher Education

The Customer

A large British public research university on a single-site campus.

Qolcom was awarded a five year supply and support contract to roll out a new wireless network consisting of 14 Aruba wireless controllers to support 14,000 access points (APs).”

The Issue

The university needed to replace both their elderly wireless network, and their equally old switch network, both of which were approaching end-of-life.

The University buildings presented a difficult environment, of very sensitive architectural value with fragile structures that needed to be protected.

The Solution

Qolcom was awarded a five year supply and support contract to roll out a new wireless network consisting of 14 Aruba wireless controllers to support 14,000 access points (APs). We also replaced the estate of edge switches and installed a Network Access Control system covering both wired and wireless connectivity.

The customer has utilised Qolcom’s expertise in consultancy, project management, communication room audits, wireless LAN and network design, stock management and control, configuration, installation, testing and on-going support, followed by WEEE/RHOS-compliant disposal of old equipment.

Qolcom is currently working with the university on the redesign of their core infrastructure network.
