Fifteen hundred android tablets were configured to precise user specifications and deployed to more than 100 sites across Europe.”

The Issue

Lorry mechanics were spending up to half their time entering data and completing admin tasks. Many were returning to the office to complete paperwork because they were unable to do so on the road, causing inconvenience, low morale and wasted time.

The customer wanted engineers and office staff to adopt a Mobile-First way of working, to replace all paperwork, reduce inefficiencies, improve morale and cut costs.

The Solution

An Android-based app was developed to replace all paperwork. Staff were provided with a mixture of rugged and semi-rugged android devices, giving mobile access to back office systems and Office 365.

Qolcom created a MobileIron envelope to migrate 450 users from the previous mobility management solution. Persona analysis ensured that the correct devices, applications and data access requirements were specified for each individual user.

Qolcom uses MobileIron to support and maintain the mobile device estate. A second tool, Wandera, is used for mobile data policy management, controlling data access and content filtering, securing the devices and providing cost control to protect against excessive international roaming charges.
